FLG Committed Spotlight: Cole Dexter

FLG Lacrosse and Wantagh senior goalie, Cole Dexter, has committed to Arcadia University and he plans to study business. Dexter chose to play for this Division III lacrosse program in Pennsylvania based on its location and its tight-nit staff and players. Following an unprecedented junior season that was cancelled due to coronavirus concerns, Dexter looks forward to getting back in goal for the spring 2021 season.

Q: What about Arcadia and its lacrosse program helped you decide it was the right school for you?

A: I decided I wanted a Division III school and really bonded with the coaching staff and players. The school is near one of my favorite cities and the campus is beautiful.

Q: How did you get into lacrosse and how long have you been playing for?

A: I started off playing baseball in first grade and it was too boring. Then, in second grade I tried lacrosse and have been playing ever since, 10 years in total.

Q: Have you always played goalie? What about this position has made you stick to it?

A: I didn’t play goalie for one year (only second grade). I love this position because it’s like none other and I love seeing fast shots come to me.

Q: When you’re not on the lacrosse field, what else are you likely to spend your time doing?

A: I love working on cars and work at the local auto shop. I also like skateboarding and snowboarding and I love music.

Q: Who are some of the people that have helped attribute to your success?

A: My first lacrosse coaches, Coach Fowler and Mangan from Wantagh. They taught me the basic skills I needed and the love of the game.

Q: What are you most looking forward to when you take the field as a college athlete?

A: I am mostly looking forward to the camaraderie. Building new friendships and playing on the college level.

Q: How has playing for Wantagh and FLG helped prepare you to play at the collegiate level?

A: Playing for Wantagh and FLG has prepared me for the collegiate level by playing with a lot of my friends in Wantagh. But, during FLG I really enjoyed the amazing coaching and teammates that I had especially Coach Dunne and both Winks!

Q: What is one thing you can’t live without?

A: The one thing I can’t live without is music. I love just vibing to some good music.

Q: What is your go-to iPhone app?

A: My go to iPhone app is Snapchat, just an original!

Q: What is your favorite sports memory?

A: My favorite sports memory is when I scored a goal at Cornell University against a really good team.
