FLG Committed Spotlight: Grace Lane

FLG’s Grace Lane, from Sacred Heart Academy, has committed to play lacrosse at Scranton University next fall! The senior attacker from Long Beach began playing lacrosse at the age of four, and is now preparing to play at the collegiate level. After  unique junior season, Lane is ready to get back on the field this spring for her final high school season.

Q: What about Scranton and its lacrosse program helped you decide it was the right school for you?

A: I think the bond between the girls on the team helped a lot. My favorite part of lacrosse is the bond you make with your teammates. So that totally helped me decide that Scranton was right for me.

Q: Are there any areas in your game that you’re working on to be even better at the college level?

A: I definitely want to work on my speed and defense at the college level. I think it will make me a better well-rounded player and make me more beneficial to my team.

Q: Have you always played attack? What about this position has made you stick to it?

A: I played midfield until 8th grade, and then my coach switched me over. I love attack because of how fast it is and I love the driving and feeding.

Q: How did you get into lacrosse and how long have you been playing for?

A: I started lacrosse at my local rec center when I was 4 years old. I’m now on year 13.

Q: What are you most looking forward to when you take the field as a college athlete?

A: I am most looking forward to playing new teams and girls from all over. With high school lacrosse you see a lot of the same girls for the 4 years that you play, so I’m excited have new competition that will help me learn and improve.

Q: How do you feel your style of play will fit into Scranton’s system?

A: I feel that my style of play will fit into Scranton’s program very well. I love the speed they play at and their movement on offense, and I think i’ll mesh well with their team.

Q: Playing for an elite high school program like Sacred Heart Academy, do you feel like that has helped  and will continue to help you be more ready to play at the college level?

A: I think playing somewhere as competitive as Sacred Heart will definitely help me move up to the next level. Lacrosse is very serious at my high school, and it’s taught me so much in the past 3 years. Playing with girls who all aspire to play at the next level gives you more drive to get better and continue to play. I don’t think I would be the athlete I am now if it weren’t for Sacred Heart.

Q: What are some of the individual goals or team goals that you would like to accomplish at Scranton?

A: One of my team goals that I want to accomplish at Scranton is to win a conference championship. As for an individual goal, I really want to hold a record there by the time i’m done with my 4 years.
