The Spirit of the Stick.

Lacrosse is the oldest sport in America. The game originated in the 1100s when the Mohawk Tribe started the medicine game across the lands by Lake Ontario . The game started as a form of entertainment, it resembled a battle. There could have been  hundreds of men on either team throwing the ball through the air. The wooden sticks hardly resemble what we see in today’s game. The sticks were constructed from wood found from hickory trees. One large piece of wood would be cut and carved to form the entirety of the stick. The stick was then strung together with animal products and leather. This construction was the norm for centuries.

Louis Perfetto Q&A, Shippin’ Up to Boston

Louis Perfetto graduated Manhasset High School in 2019, and he had a truly exceptional senior season. Louis led the Manhasset Indians to a 17-3 record including going undefeated in conference play. Perfetto played remarkably well putting in 40 goals to go with 23 assists and leading his team to the state semifinals. A heartbreaking loss up in Albany, meant an end to their season but the ride was still unforgettable. Now playing at Boston University, the Long Island native took some time to answer a few questions for us as he prepares for his first season of college lacrosse.

Kendall Halpern Q&A w/ the Syosset Star

Kendall Halpern, the “studlete” from Syosset, is embarking on her senior season. Before she gears up for lacrosse Kendall will dawn her soccer cleats and basketball sneakers for one last go around. Halpern, a four year varsity soccer player has made the Nassau all-county team. Last season she was a member of Syosset’s first ever county championship squad. A fantastic soccer player, Kendall was MVP of the county tournament. During her junior hoops season she averaged nearly 12 points and led Syosset  to an undefeated regular season in conference play. The Braves lost to eventual champion Baldwin in the playoffs, so Halpern and her teammates enter this season with a massive chip on their shoulders.

Regy Thorpe Growing Box Lacrosse in America

Regy Thorpe is one of the most respected names in lacrosse. He played college lacrosse at Syracuse where he captained the 1993 championship team during his All-American season. Upon graduating Thorpe played professionally, in the NLL. For 15 seasons he was a member of the Rochester Knighthawks, he played in Rochester from 1995-2010 and was the captain of two championship teams a decade apart; 1997 and 2007.

Thomas Liantonio; Overcomes. Inspires. Excels.

One of the most inspirational stories of the 2020 lacrosse season will be taking place at LIU Post. 5th year senior Thomas Liantonio is so much more than a lacrosse story. In 2017, he was diagnosed with myocarditis, a rare heart disease resulting in an inflammation of the heart. The diagnosis was devastating and for the first time since 1st grade Liantonio missed a lacrosse season. The following year, Liantonio was again stricken with medical hardship.
