Louis Perfetto graduated Manhasset High School in 2019, and he had a truly exceptional senior season. Louis led the Manhasset Indians to a 17-3 record including going undefeated in conference play. Perfetto played remarkably well putting in 40 goals to go with 23 assists and leading his team to the state semifinals. A heartbreaking loss up in Albany, meant an end to their season but the ride was still unforgettable. Now playing at Boston University, the Long Island native took some time to answer a few questions for us as he prepares for his first season of college lacrosse.
Q: Why did you choose Boston University?
I chose Boston University because of the great balance between attending a high-level academic institution and playing for a high level lacrosse program. I also love the city of Boston. On top of all this, the coaching staff is fantastic!
Q: Has it lived up to the expectations so far?
Absolutely! So far it has been everything I thought it was going to be. I love the academics/professors, I love my teammates and I love my coaches. The city of Boston is a lot of fun as well.
Q: How different is preparing for college lacrosse compared to your time in Manhasset?
College Lacrosse is more demanding of your time with a more rigorous schedule between lifting and practices. Most mornings we are in the gym by 5:45 am and some of those days we have practice @ 9:30 at night. We also spend a tremendous amount of time on the details of every aspect of the game, both from a team point of view and an individual point of view.
Q:Is there anything you’ve picked up in your first month of school that you feel would benefit you on the lacrosse field this season?
Being prepared for my classes each day and communicating with the professors and my academic advisor is critical to having success in the classroom. Those same two attributes are critical on the lacrosse field.
Q: What are you most looking forward to in college?
In the short term I am looking forward to playing my first collegiate lacrosse game on January 25 vs Stony Brook. I also look forward to winning a Patriot league championship. On the academic side, I look forward to making the honor roll and one day using my great education to get a great job.
Q: What was the highlight of your high school career?
It would definitely be being the captain of the Manhasset High School basketball and lacrosse team and leading both teams to a Nassau County and Long Island championship in my senior year is pretty unforgettable.
Q: What do you miss most about Long Island?
My family. And I wouldn’t mind a good slice of pizza or a bagel every once in a while.
Q: Where do you see yourself post graduation and how do you see your lacrosse experience helping you in future endeavors?
I’m not sure what career I want to pursue quite yet. Right now I think I’m going to be a business major but I anticipate getting a great job post graduation and being dedicated to the job much like I am with academics and lacrosse. I think the work ethic, dedication, time management and preparation that I have to utilize in lacrosse, will help me succeed in the job that I will eventually have.
