NY College Preview: LIU Sharks Men’s Lacrosse

“We’re focused on development and hard work.  Doing things the right way, consistently on a day in, day out basis.  I would hope when someone would describe our guys and our program they would describe us as hard working and tough because that’s what we identify with as a group.” – Eric Wolf

LIU Post Sharks

Head Coach: Eric Wolf

Assistant Coaches: Jack Runkel, Tim Rotanza, Connor Farrell

Conference: Northeast Conference

2019 Record: 11-5 (5-1 in conference)

2020 recruits

Thomas Van Bergen, Wantagh

2020 will mark the third season of coach Eric Wolf’s tenure at LIU post, and after taking over the program Wolf and the Sharks have done nothing but improve. Wolf’s forte is on the offensive side of the game. In his first season, he coached Nick Snelders to win conference rookie of the year, a season in which Snelders broke the school record for goals (61). In year two, Snelders made the All-American team and coach Wolf led a second freshman to conference rookie of the year; Jake Gillis.  This year’s recruiting class is decorated with several Long Island kids wishing to play close to home. Highlighted by goalie Nick Squicciarini and defenseman/LSM R.J. Smith it would surprise no one if LIU posts a third consecutive rookie of the year.

This season is the first year the LIU Post Sharks will be competing in Division 1. Individual accolades are great but that is not the emphasis from coach Wolf. Hard work and commitment are principles ingrained in every single member of the LIU team.  The Sharks work hard and play the game the right way. The old cliche is hard work fails talent when talent fails to work hard. Coach Wolf returns a hungry team, a talented team and above all a hard working team a recipe for success that will surely play out during the shark’s 2020 season.
