FLG Coaches Feature: Get to Know Coach Dunne

FLG’s Boys Coach, Eric Dunne, is an expert in bringing humor and volume to the sidelines. Dunne also works as a social studies teacher at Farmingdale Senior High School, and coaches the boy’s lacrosse team. When he’s not teaching or coaching, Dunne finds time to spend with family and friends or practicing Jiu-Jitsu. His loud nature and martial arts skills definitely help Coach Dunne run a tight ship. FLG Committed Spotlight: Defender Danielle Malpica Chooses Springfield

Recent Springfield College commit, Danielle Malpica, has found a way to balance school, sports and serving her community. Malpica plays lacrosse, runs cross country, and is giving soccer a go this fall at Long Island Lutheran High School. The senior defender from Glen Head, NY currently works as a peer mentor to children with autism and plans to study occupational therapy at Springfield.  Malpica is an all conference player, high school team captain, and lefty defender on FLG’s 2021 Women’s Roster.

Alumni Feature: Desiree Kleberg’s Freshman Season at Quinnipiac

FLG alum, Desiree Kleberg experienced an outstanding first-year season with the Quinnipiac Bobcats this spring. Kleberg, the midfielder from Huntington Station, NY, totaled 12 points and appeared in seven games as a freshman.  While in high school, Kleberg was a key player for FLG and Walt Whitman Girls Varsity. Similarly, Kleberg was a top ten scorer in Suffolk County as a senior, with 59 goals and 22 assists, and in 2017 she earned player of the Game in the FLG Showcase.

FLG Coaches Feature: Beth Vogelsang

Beth Vogelsang is FLG’s newest coach for the class of 2026 girl’s team. By day, Vogelsang works as a physical education teacher in the Huntington school district. But she doubles as the Huntington Blue Devils Girls Varsity Head Coach. In college, Vogelsang played midfield for the Cortland Women’s Lacrosse Team. She now brings her playing experience and coaching skills to FLG. The former Red Dragon is looking forward to her first year coaching with FLG and working with a younger class of players that will grow the next generation of the game.

FLG Committed Spotlight: Ben Ferrara on Becoming a Boston Terrier

Ben Ferrara, Locust Valley senior, is Boston University Men’s Lacrosse’s newest commit. Ferrara is a face-off specialist and midfielder from Glen Head, NY and currently plays for his high school team and FLG. The class of 2021 grad is looking forward to playing Division I lacrosse with the Terriers after a unique and unprecedented junior season. After missing out on the 2020 spring season, Ferrara is more than ready to get back to the Face-off X for his final high school season.

FLG Boys Class of 2021

Jack Cornell (D/LSM, Island Trees)– Cornell is as fundamental as they come. A methodical thinker, he understands individual principles as well as team concepts very well. His on ball approaches are renowned, and is never afraid to D up the biggest and baddest attacker’s. Cornell has great size and smarts. You want him on the Man Down Unit. 

Cristian Lembo (D, Farmingdale)- A Bull in a china shop, Lembo is not afraid to throw his body around. Great size and exceptional feet, he can lay wood while still maintaining positioning. Communicates and can support his teammates in the rotation. Great attitude and is very coachable
