String King Game of the Week – Chief Welcome Brave

The battle is brewing for am INTENSE Nassau Class A match- up. The Syosset Braves will travel down to the south shore of Long Island to take on conference rival Massapequa. LILJ will be bring you coverage all game long via instagram @flglax to see whose tribe is stronger. It all goes down Wednesday May 1st 6:30pm @ Massapequa HS!

Two VERY comparable teams, Both Massapequa and Syosset have had much success on the year with ‘Pequa being 9 – 2 and Syosset being 11 – 1. Since both of these two teams compete in the same conference, its very easy to compare strength of schedules and quality wins and loss. With all common opponents, Both the Braves and the Chief’s have been beating team by comparable margins. However a big outlier is the common mantch- up between top conference foe, Farmingdale.

Syo played the Dalers more towards the beginning of the season. A great game it was, with the Braves coming out on top by a two goal margin, 13 – 11. About a month later, the Chiefs traveled to the Dale, and whether Massapequa came out smoking, or Farmingdale just couldn’t find a rhythm, regardless, ‘Pequa absolutely dominated all game, winning all 4 quarters, coming out on top by a score of 14 – 3. Is ‘Peuqa just that good?

Quality losses against LI and National Power Garden City (a 1 goal game) and Parochial National Power Chaminade, ‘Pequa has been competing with the best of the best all season long.  It’s these games that prepare them for the big moments in conference. However is anyone is going to challenge them this year in Nassau Class A, its going to be the Syosset Braves.

The Braves have a trio that has been absolutely controlling the pace and firing on all cylinders for the offense in the 2019 season.  Jack Monfort, the Yale bound senior is an absolute threat from out top. A true down hill dodger, this kid knows how to get to his strength, down the alley and sting it. When he doesn’t have the look, he gets it down to the attack, for AJ Alexander and Andrew Giovinco to go to work. These to guys WORK, having great movement off ball, finding cutters, and climbing the hashes for themselves. If these three can find a way to get loose on Wednesday, the absolutely have a shot to come put on top with the upset against the Chiefs.

However nothing is easy. ‘Pequa locks it DOWN on the defensive end. Kenney Brower, the Duke bound senior is a monster. He possess the ability to play great fundamental sound defense, attack dodgers and shooter, call out the slide packages and slide with a sense of urgency. A two goalie system, Joe Moran and Nick Squicciarini must be on their A game as Syosset likes to shoot. However the Chief’s offense is definitely going to have the ball as Angelo Petrakis, the Cornell bound seniow and arguably the best FOGO in the 2019 class, has won close to 200 face offs this season. Pequa has a ton of offensive threats including the offball wizard Colin Gleason, committed to the Siena Saints, Senior Garret Gibbions the creator going to Maryland and others including Thomas Greenblatt (Binghampton), Ethan Hall and Logan tucker.

Long Island is in for a treat! Be sure to follow this game as this will decide who is the top team in Nassau Class A. LILJ will be bring out LIVE full game coverage via instagram @flglax so be sure to tune in!
