Floral Park vs. Locust Valley Boys Analysis

On a gorgeous May night, we witnessed an intense game between Floral Park and Locust Valley boy’s lacrosse teams. It was a heated game that had playoff implications, which saw Locust Valley coming out on top, 14-5.

The first quarter was all Locust Valley. It was led by two goals from senior Franke Smith as well as a goal each from junior Mikey Ciaizzo and sophomore Luke Dellcicchi. Locust Valley displayed good ball control and had excellent shot selection. They also displayed great defense by holding a good Floral Park offense to zero in the first quarter and were leading in faceoffs four to one. Floral Park although being down by four did a great job at hanging in the game and keeping the hot Locust Valley offense contained.

The second quarter was a good one for Floral Park. It was led by two goals from senior Harry Power, as well as a goal from junior Dan Patalano and sophomore Ronan Sanchez. Locust Valley had scores from Ciaizzo and senior Anthony Madsen. Floral Park played great defense keeping Locust Valley to just two goals this quarter. They also had better shot selection, thus being able to make more goals. At halftime the score was six to four.

Once the third quarter came Locust Valley came out firing. Scoring a goal with Smith, Ciaizzo, Dellicicchi, and Madsen. Madsen had two that quarter. The first four goals scored in the third quarter were all off caused turnovers. Floral Park’s Chris Bartell did score a goal for them this quarter though, so they weren’t shut out. Locust Valley had great shot selection and capitalized well on the caused turnovers from Floral Park. The score was eleven to five heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Locust Valley continued to score with Smith and Dellicicchi. As well as a score from sophomore Ben Ferrara. Locust Valley eventually ran out the clock and secured a 14-5 win.

Floral Park put up a great effort against Locust Valley, but the Locust Valley offense came out firing in both halves, while their defense held strong and stopped the chances Floral Park would get. Locust Valley should leave this game thinking they just beat a good team in Floral Park by a big margin, that should be a confidence booster alone going into the playoffs. They did a great job at capitalizing on opportunities given to them. Floral Park should use this game as a learning experience because they are still a playoff bound team.
