Hugh Kelleher is currently in the midst of an undefeated (5-0) football season for Macarthur High School. Hugh is running wild over the competition, with 11 TDs and nearly 1,000 yards through his team’s first five games. Kelleher’s prowess out of the backfield has been a catalyst for a much improved Generals squad. The team is on a mission to prove the rest of Nassau wrong for ever doubting them. Hugh is also a member of the Macarthur basketball team, where he showcases his athletic ability all winter long.

Kelleher is one of the top athletes on all of Long Island, but he is most recognized for his lacrosse ability. The senior has already accepted an offer from Cornell to be a member of the big red lacrosse family starting next year. Last season, as a junior, Kelleher netted 37 goals and added 9 assists. He will look to lead the Generals to a better season in his final campaign. The multi-sport studlete is not someone to bet against, Nassau county gets to watch Kelleher all year long tear it up across sports, don’t be surprised to see the Generals go far this year.

Q: How has the start to senior year been?

Senior year is off to a great start as school is going very well and I’m having a lot of fun during my senior football season.

Q: Why Cornell?

I chose Cornell because of a few reasons one being that it is one of the best universities in the country and I take school very seriously. When I went on my first visit to Cornell I felt that the team and the culture around the lacrosse program was a perfect fit for me.

Q: Was playing football in college ever something you considered?

My two older brothers both played Division 1 college football but I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a lacrosse player. I got recruited for lacrosse and committed to Cornell early in my junior year so I knew for a while now that I would like to play college lacrosse.

Q: Why did you start playing lacrosse?

I started off playing baseball until I was 8 or 9 and while I was playing baseball I went to a couple lacrosse clinics and soon realized I definitely liked lacrosse more.

Q: What are your hopes for the upcoming lacrosse season?

We have a young team at MacArthur this year so hopefully we can fill in the spots left by seniors last year and really come together and have a winning season.
