On July 22nd through July 24th, the second annual New York State Regional Championship took place at Binghamton University. The best players from ADK, Central, Hudson Valley, Nassau, NYC, Parochial, Suffolk, and Western wanted to show why they are the best region in their respective grad year. All of these young adults showed why they deserve to play on this big stage, but some players really turned it up to another level.

2020

Davon Johnson (2020, M, NYC)-  I was very impressed with Davon Johnson, as he is a do it all midfielder. Johnson is excellent at clearing the ball, has great speed, and can really shoot the ball with power, but more importantly, Johnson has a great attitude on and off the field.

Trey Gehen (2020, A, Western)– Trey Gehen lit up the stat sheet for the Western 2020’s, and took charge on offense. Gehen is a swifty attackmen and makes highlight reel plays.

Michael Herrera (2020, FOGO, Central)– Herrera is an absolute stud and impressed me in the first couple of minutes I saw him play. Herrera has great size and he also contributes on offense when he wins the faceoff.

Robert Marten (2020, D, Western)– Marten was the anchor of the 2020 Western defense. Marten throws a lot of checks, but he can get away with it as he has tremendous footwork. Marten is a lethal one on one defender.

Matthew Kemmis (2020, A, Western)– The Western 2020 attack unit was a treat to watch with Kemmis and Gehen. Kemmis is a great dodger, has great vision, and does a great job creating his own shot.

Billy Beach (2020, A, ADK)– Beach is a very accurate shooter, and really knows where to put the ball in the right spot in the back of the net.

2021

Jojo Todaro (2021, D, Nassau)-  Stud is the word that describes Jojo Todaro. There is nothing this kid can’t do on defense. He plays great one on one defense, can clear the ball with ease, and communicates with his teammates very well.

Jezayd Hall (2021, FOGO, Suffolk)- Hall is one hell of an athlete, as he is a stand out wrestler which helps him tremendously on the faceoff X. Hall has a great technique and was an X factor for the Suffolk 21’s.

2022

Joey Spallina (2022, A, Suffolk)- Spallina was the biggest name at the NYSRC. Spallina makes jaw dropping plays, is a very fun player to watch, and is a prolific scorer.

Brendan Staub (2022, D, Nassau)– Staub is a tough physical defender that has a knock to scoop up ground balls.

2023

Stevie Finnell (2023, M, Nassau)- Finnell is an absolute warrior on the field. Finell is the optimal team player, a great two way middie, and shoots like a grown man.

Jackson Greene (2023, A, Nassau)- Greene is a varsity ready player and is very developed for his age.

Owen Duffy (2023, A, Suffolk)-  Owen Duffy has an unbelievable lacrosse IQ, sees the field like a college attackmen, and he is a tough kid despite his size. Duffy is going to make some noise in the game of lacrosse.
